Caribou – Odessa (2010)

Dan Snaith’s 2010 album Swim kicks off with ‘Odessa’. It’s a fantastic cut for all its strange but familiar sounds. The high pitched synth, the Musik Express bells and the Röyksopp like lyrics: “Taking the kids/ Driving away/ Turning ’round the life she let him siphon away”. Caribou good. Have a good weekend

Röyksopp – What Else Is There? (2005)

Röyksopp 2005

Röyksopp were in their pomp in 2005. ‘What Else Is There?’ is the third single from their second album The Understanding. The choice of featuring the vocals of Karin Dreijer Andersson from The Knife was a masterstroke. While she wasn’t the star of the video (that spot had been reserved for Norwegian model Marianne Schröder), her Cyndi Lauper impression steals the show.

Annie – Heartbeat (2004)

Norwegian singer-songwriter Anne Strand is better known by her stage name Annie. In 2004, she crafted this effective slice of pop with the help of fellow countrymen Röyksopp. Svein Berge and Torbjørn Brundtland produced ‘Heartbeat’, the second single off her 2004 album Anniemal. The song always makes me smile, which is a little odd, as her voice is featherweight at best. But talented production often trumps performance in the world of pop. Have a good week.

Röyksopp ‎- Remind Me (2001)

Easing my way into the start of the week, it’s the chilled-out instrumentals of Röyksopp’s ‘Remind Me’. Featuring on their 2001 long player Melody AM, the track was released as a single the following year. Have a great week.

Röyksopp – So Easy (1999)

YouTube – AmazoniTunes – Discogs

More Scandinavian bliss – Röyksopp’s ‘So Easy’ was the Norwegian duo’s first single. It would appear on their debut album Melody A.M. The track features the main instrumental from Burt Bacharach and Hal David’s ‘Blue on Blue’, and despite (or because of) the loss of Bobby Vinton’s vocals, Röyksopp came up with one of the most addictive slices of electronica to grace the airwaves.
