The Promise Ring

The Promise Ring are one of a shortlist of bands forever associated with emo. And I have to say, the term “emo” is usually a red flag for these ears. But in 2002, Davey von Bohlen and crew set a new course with the release of Wood/Water. For example, ‘Become One Anything One Time’ was less crisp, less urgent, but more thoughtful, more mature. The change in direction would be the last voyage for the band. What is a promise ring anyway? Pre-engagement commitment? A youthful oxymoron.
