Since his death on 5 January 1979, New York City and Washington D.C. have recognised the date as Charles Mingus Day. Mingus was a great bass player, but it was as a composer that he created his legacy. Featuring on 1959’s Atlantic-released LP Blues & Roots, ‘Moanin’’ is a misnomer – the instruments wail. Have a great week.
