Aztec Camera – Oblivious (1983)

Aztec Camera

Putting to one side the leaps and bounds made in dance music, the 1980s gets a bad rap for what it contributed to other genres. And in some cases (Starship’s ‘We Built This City’ anyone?), this reputation is warranted. But this blog has documented many glorious sounds from the likes of OMD, Human League, New Order, Duran Duran, Lloyd Cole, REM, Propaganda, Prefab Sprout, The Cult, Tears For Fears, Primal Scream, The Blow Monkeys, The The and The Smiths. (I note my predilection for UK acts – it was a polarised time.) To that prestigious list, I add the new wave sounds of early Kajagoogoo Aztec Camera. It was 1983; the band had been together 3 years; ‘Oblivious’ featured on their first album High Land, High Rain; and Roddy Frame was still only n-n-n-n-nineteen!
