Charanjit Singh

And now for a huge jump from 1960s to the 1980s. Shriman Singh was a man ahead of his time. Inspired by Stateside disco, Singh created the futuristic sound that was Ten Ragas to a Disco Beat. While it had a limited impact at the time, it created quite a stir on re-release in 2010. The wedding band musician had booked out Mumbai’s HMV studio in 1982 and set about transforming 10 Indian ragas with a Jupiter 8 and Roland’s 808 and 303. Listening to ‘Raga Bhairav’ now, you definitely hear the sounds of house music, a number of years before Chicago found them. Happy New Year!

Hard to believe this is from 1982, and a wedding band musician!
