By the time A Tribe Called Quest released The Low End Theory in 1991, they had already scored large with their ground-breaking debut album People’s Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm and its pervasive call-and-response track ‘Can I Kick It?’ But rather than go down the path of same-old-same-old, they would blend their playful jazz samples with fatter, edgy beats to create a much harder sound. I choose ‘Scenario’, the last track on the album. It’s a collaboration with the Leaders Of The New School featuring the lyrical flow of Busta Bhymes. “Here we go yo, here we go yo…”

    This is now 20 yo but was cutting edge at the time. It sort of still holds true and has impact but is betrayed by the speed of the lyrics although maybe that’s not such a bad thing. I do like the dos graphics though
