In the ‘The Man Who Would Be King’, you can hear the real partnership that was Peter Doherty and Carl Barât. Off The Libertines’ self-titled second album, the choice of Kipling story for the song’s theme was most apt – two good friends whose views diverge and who would ultimately begin to despise what each other had become. The band would split shortly after the album’s release.
