Germany was cool in the 1970s and large slice of that will have been down to these guys. Krautrockers Neu! became an offshoot of Kraftwerk, when Klaus Dinger and Michael Rother left the band in 1971 and set out a new stall in Dusseldorf. Their eponymous first album starts with the funky guitar and tight drums of ‘Hallogallo’. Like some sort of jazz workout, the track explored a rhythmic sound that would be hugely influential. I can hear Television and Joy Division. But they would be another five years later. Like Kraftwerk, Neu! were men of the future
