We started the week with a lament, and we end with one too. Marvin Isley died in 2010. He was the youngest of The Isley Brothers, but was involved in the group early enough to play bass on the Isleys’ 1972 T-Neck single ‘Work to Do’. Marvin’s involvement in this track and its album Brother, Brother, Brother coincided with the Isleys’ experimentation with mixing soul, rock and funk genres. It was a fruitful time, as shown off by their classic mid-1970s compilation Forever Gold. We’ve all got work to do, but it’s the weekend!
