Neil Young – Out On The Weekend (1972)

‘Out On The Weekend’ is from Neil Young’s sublime and melancholic long player Harvest. And no better place to start than its opening track. Any need for love this weekend? As good as his music became in ensuing years, this song and the album’s wistful ‘Old Man’ provide my first stop on any journey through Young’s back catalogue. It is something to do the heartfelt lyrics and the simplicity of the backbeats. These songs are hardwired.

I have warmed to this ,album over the years and find it less boring than when I was at university but still wouldn’t spend a lot of time with it. I’m sure this song has plenty of merit wit depth to get your mood flowing, but it just makes me fall asleep zzzzzzzzz
