Spoon – Black Like Me (2007)

YouTube – Amazon – iTunes – Discogs

The last song on Spoon’s Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga, ‘Black Like Me’ fulfils that end-of-album, ballad spot that so often befalls an album. But hold on a minute, a rasping heartfelt voice, a floating piano, a pick up of tempo half way through into an accessible rock which then leaves, completely unannounced. I wanted more and went out and bought the Texan’s revered previous release, Gimme Fiction, and I have to say the song wasn’t bettered. ‘I Summon You’ comes close, mind.
