The Hold Steady – The Chillout Tent (2006)

A rocker to get things up and running on a Monday. Oft dubbed an indie band, these New Yorkers have a Springsteen-inspired sound that critics go mad for. The public less so. Not one of the band’s most acclaimed songs, ‘Chillout Tent’ is buried (10th track) on the THS’s Boys and Girls in America. The sound is arguably blue collar, but the lyrics differ: a music festival in western Massachusetts, a chillout tent, oranges and cigarettes, and a boy and a girl in America. It’s a song I play a lot – it’s all that youthful escapism.
