This is feel-good pop. But more than that, it is the most extraordinary example of an 80s pastiche – think Level 42/Haircut 100/Wet Wet Wet. And despite what I’ve just typed, it’s great. The style marked a stark change of direction for the these chaps. I like the fact that they once based themselves on Eel Pie Island and that they name check ‘Marquee Moon’; it adds to the ease of listening.
